Check Out Our Feedback And See What Our Happy Clients Have To Say About Us!!!! This radiant Neo-Impressionist nude portrait is an original 1970s oil on canvas by the talented American/New York artist, Millicent Cullen-Werbin (20th century). With a subtle yet sensual grace, Cullen completes this exquisite portrait with a distinguished palette, buttering the canvas with colorful swatches from all ranges on the spectrum. The model's face, sullen in description but electrically charged in its painted quality, instills the work with a heavy sigh; almost visually audible to its viewer. Cullen paints a small hanging light towards the top of the piece, reminding his audience that the work is not only of a nude woman, but of the craft of the artist in his studio. The model's eyes cast to the side, her posture slumped significantly against the wooden chair on which she sits. The piece is masterfully executed, carefully addressing certain parts of the painting, and loosening up on others, which maintains the painting's expressive freshness. The background of muted, bleak tones only forces the rich hues of her skin tone to leap from the canvas. Cullen is a master at relating the subtle text of body language and interpreting it for all to appreciate. This stunning original Cullen oil is a worthy continuation of this time honored genre. The piece is signed by the artist in the lower left. The image measures 24 x 36" and 33 x 45" in gorgeous black and silver baroque frame, that perfectly complements the piece, as always provided free of charge to our clients. (Frames are complimentary and we are not responsible for their condition. We are only responsible for the condition of the painting.) Condition report: The artwork is in very good condition with no cracklure to the paint. The frame is in good condition with significant paint loss and wear and tear, especially along the corners, and is most noticeable in the black painted sections - but I might mention, it takes away almost nothing from the beauty of the ornamentation. WE ARE WILLING TO REMOVE THE FRAME TO LOWER SHIPPING COSTS! BUT THE FRAME IS INCLUDED IN THE AUCTION! SO PLEASE INQUIRE! BIOGRAPHY: Millicent Cullen-Werbin was a well-known New York artist-teacher, making her home for many years at the New York Art Students League, where she focused mainly on portrait studies and nudes, with some florals and street scenes. Her paintings are penetrating as well as intriguing, with beautiful use of many artists techniques that are hard to find in one artist! Truly a skilled professional artist whose wholesome, down-to-earth approach to art makes her artwork accessible to the viewer, and make her successful as an artist as well. She passed away in the mid 80's, and we were fortunate enough to acquire her entire estate of paintings.
