Signed in the bottom left corner of the painting, it has a label on the back that reads, Abend i. Bergwald (Feldberg) Karl Biese Winterabend im Wald Feldberg, which roughly translates approx. Evening in the Mountain Forest (Feldberg) Karl Biese winter evening in the forest of Feldberg. Feldberg is in the Black Forest of Germany. (Only 2 Negatives in 12 years, one apologized in his comments, the other left a neg before the Post Office said it would be to them while their package was enroute. YES, it was shipped in a timely manner!) Back when we last could count repeat buyers, (the changed feedback does not allow that anymore.) we had OVER 4,103 REPEAT CUSTOMERS!!! (They must know something.) (Maybe they have fun here.) SO YOU CAN BID WITH CONFIDENCE!! Please note: We put up a very ecclectic collection of items and are not experts in every area, so descriptions are our best guess as to what something is. While we try to research each item to the best of our ability, it is the buyer's responsibility to know what they are buying. TERMS OF SERVICE EBAY is ALL we do for a living, husband and wife (Norb & Marie) working together, while we home school our kids on our farmette in Rural Delmarva. We have worked very hard to build our little business and it is very important to us. We try and do business the old fashioned way and have a rather simple outlook. Treat all of your customers as if they are family. Be courteous, answer emails, be fair in all your deallings and try and make friends of each and every customer. BUT... with eBay's new star rating and the rate increases in the U.S. Postal rates we needed to define and explain our methods of business. ONE - Who We Deal With We sell and ship world wide to anywhere, so please email us for a quote to wherever you happen to be. TWO - Shipping Charges We charge shipping based on the USPS system, we will sometimes ship via courier if we can get it to you within the same time frame or faster. We add a reasonable cost for materials, normally that is $2.00 for regular sized packages. For small flat items $1.00. That covers the expense of boxes, envelopes, bubble wrap, peanuts, (We only use new packing materials, life is too short to scrounge through dumpsters). For larger items that take a larger more expensive box, we charge a little more, to cover the special box, example paintings or lamps. For oversized items or items that will take special attention to package, (Build a crate, wrap a zillion things individually, etc.), we ask you to email us for a quote on shipping prior to the auction ending. If you do not, we charge the same amount as if you did. In other words WE NEVER GOUGE SHIPPING COSTS!! TWO POINT ONE - International Shipping We charge shipping based on the USPS international system. The rates follow the same guidelines as number two above, though for international customers we add an additional $1.00 to cover the extra paperwork involved in international shipping. If an amount goes over $50 in value we will only ship it with Priority or Express Mail, regardless how small an item. That allows for us to have international tracking. There is no tracking available on First Class Mail. TWO POINT TWO - Insurance We require insurance on any item that goes over $27.00 in value. Because eBay does not have a way of kicking in insurance when it reaches a certain level, we have to put down that insurance is required on all purchases. This is reflected in the shipping quoted. (eBay's calculator adds insurance into what you see on the site.) BUT... if an item ends under $27.00 we change the invoice insurance area to "Optional" and leave the choice up to you. We reserve the right to use the insurance carrier of our choice. Sometimes that is Postal or the Carrier's Insurance and sometimes that is a private insurance company such as DSI or U-PIC. If we use a private insurance company the package will not be marked insured, but it will be. THREE - Methods of Payment Accepted We abide by eBay's rules and try and stay abreast of their changes. We accept Paypal. We also take Credit Cards Directly over the phone, (MC, VISA, DISCOVER) For American Express, you must use Paypal. Bottom line, whatever method is most convenient for you. FOUR - Time Frame To Pay We ask all auctions to be paid for in the fastest possible time frame. (This is all we do for a living and we need the money to pay the bills and buy more unique and fun items to put up on eBay) FIVE - Shipping Time Frame We make every effort to ship in a timely manner. We are home schooling the boys, listing tons of items, and as like any of us are just plain swamped, so we have to schedule a special time to pack and ship. We ship on a first paid, first shipped basis. (We do not ship any item until it has been paid and the funds have cleared.) With the ebb and flow of payments we manage to get everything out of the door within one week. If there is a rush, we will make every effort to work with you in getting it out of the door faster. As you can see from our feedback, we do not disappoint. OF COURSE, items that need special attention, crating, etc adds to the time frame of those items. SIX - Communication Please feel free to contact us at anytime, with any question or comment. Unless we are out of town we make an effort to answer all emails as quickly as possible. We PREFER PAYPAL!! We accept MC, Visa, and Discover via phone or dual e-mail or via PAYPAL!! TO PAY WITH AMEX (American Express) PLEASE GO TO PAYPAL, THEY WILL TAKE IT FOR US! YES, BUYER PAYS SHIPPING DESPITE WHAT EBAY'S PAGE SAYS BENEATH THIS DESCRIPTION. We estimate shipping weight & packaging materials and e-mail winning bidder shipping costs at auction end. We package well, as our feedback attests. We use NEW boxes and shipping materials, bubbles, peanuts & envelopes. To get an estimate to your zipcode, e-mail us for a quote BEFORE the auction is over. Please Click to See Our Other Auctions. One last note: Thank you!! Because you have taken enough interest to read all the way down this far, we know you to be the type of customer we want to acknowledge. We continue to have so much fun on ebay mainly because of friends like you. So. . . THANK YOU!! yqz Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
Huge French Impressionist Sheep Watercolor Painting L. Candelle with 7" Wide Period Frame Currently, I am having my "Spectacular Spring Sale." This sale features paintings and a sculpture by many well documented and important artists. All of the artwork is 100% guaranteed, as described. "Spectacular Spring Sale!" This painting was originally purchased from a major auction house. With deft brushwork and an endearing composition, this is the finest painting that I have ever seen by Candelle...period! If you look closely, Candelle finds a harmonized balance between sheep and nature. It is a stormy, winter day. For most of us, we can combat inclimate weather by wearing the proper clothing and finding shelter from dangerous elements. For sheep, it is a different story. In the winter, these ruminant mammals sometimes have to struggle to survive. Despite having a a caretaker, the positioning of the sheep amongst the landscape is indicative of how challenging Mother Nature can be. The well rendered expressions on their faces, shows thatCandelle had great respect for the ability of the sheep to survive and work together, as a group. Paintings, such as this one, have become very endearing to collectors. With Candelle's work only appearing at auction three times (in my databases) over the past 20 years, it is apparent collectors are not very anxious to sell his work. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This watercolor (mixed with gouache or oil) on board or paper (not examined out of frame) measures 26.25" by 38.75", with its' frame. The actual painting measures 12.75" by 25" (sight). The painting is signed by Candelle, on the lower right. The painting is in good, overall condition. I do not see any rips, tears or holes. The 7" wide and 2" deep period frame is quite ornate. It has some scratches, chips and molding missing. However, the frame is in approximately 90% of its' original condition. The weight and size of the packaged painting is the reason for the higher shipping charge. I only charge the actual shipping cost. As a matter of principle, I never charge for packaging, fuel or handling. If you would like to know an international shipping price, please contact me prior to bidding. When examining the painting under the ultraviolet light, I did not find evidence of inpainting. The signature is original to the painting and it did not flouresce under the ultraviolet light. As stated above, Candelle's paintings are rare. Being a well framed painting of this quality, it may be another 20 years before you see another painting by this rare French artist. Good luck on becoming the winning bidder of this impressionist painting by Candelle. NOTE: Please bid responsibly and email us with any questions, prior to bidding. The winning bidder will receive everything described in the item's description. Please do not expect anything that is not described in the auction.
17thC Dutch Old Master OIL - Tavern Scene - Jan Steen FIGURES DRINKING IN TAVERN - VERY EARLY OIL c. 1670's Circle of JAN STEEN ( 1626 - 1679 ) A fine and early tavern scene from the circle of Jan Steen the noted Dutch inetrior and figure painter. This work is typical of the artist with two happy figures drinking and smoking in a tavern. On the table there rests a pouch of tobacco and various pipe tips. The painting has great age and a wonderful feel. There are many later Dutch tavern scenes on the market so it is very nice to see a genuine period piece like this. It does require some minor restoration but it is on its original hand woven canvas and stretcher. Title: "Figures in a Tavern" Medium: Original oil on canvas Size: This oil measures c. 9.5 x 8 inches unframed / c. 13.5 x 10 framed Condition: Some paint cracking to top and sides - needs minor retouching - canvas stable ABOUT THE ARTIST: Remarkably, given the meager living he made from art, Jan Steen was the humorist among Dutch painters. He persevered, creating nearly eight hundred pictures, most with a moral beneath the wit. A prosperous brewer's son, Steen enrolled in Leyden University in 1646, but by 1648 he was helping to found the Leyden Guild of Saint Luke. His teachers may have included Nikolaus Knüpfer. Steen was not one to stay put; he lived in The Hague; Haarlem; Leyden, where he ran a tavern; and Delft, where he leased a brewery. He married Jan van Goyen's daughter. Steen dated few paintings and frequently varied his style. His range included riotous tavern scenes and gentle lessons. His commonplace interiors with ordinary people look straightforward, but he usually included a moral, sometimes as an inscription. Allusions to old proverbs, emblems, literature, and the theater abound. A lifelong Catholic, he painted more than sixty religious pictures, usually treating them like incidents in seventeenth-century Holland and not holding back on the humanity or humor. Steen's skill in rendering light and texture rank him with Gerard ter Borch. He frequently portrayed himself in pictures--not necessarily flatteringly. The Dutch call a lively, untidy home a "Jan Steen household".: English Scottish Irish Welsh French Watercolor Watercolour Oil on Canvas Victorian Listed Superb 19th century Exhibited Royal academy Institute Dowdeswell Agnew Cooling Watercolourists Sothebys Christies Bonhams dog landscape 18th Century 18thC Marine RSA RSW ROI RBA RWS SS provenance luminist American rhode island Chicago new york bo: English Scottish Irish Welsh French Watercolor Watercolour Oil on Canvas Victorian Listed Superb 19th century Exhibited Royal academy Institute Dowdeswell Agnew Cooling Watercolourists Sothebys Christies Bonhams dog landscape 18th Century 18thC Marine RSA RSW ROI RBA RWS SS provenance luminist American rhode island Chicago new york _gsrx_vers_275 (GS 5.2b11 (275))

Buyer pays $8.50 for professional packing and insured shipping.(That is for U.S. LOWER 48 only. Elsewhere in the known Universe - request quote.) All Customs forms will state actual selling price of items shipped internationally. Two young women, sisters, from Washington, DC befriended the famous wildlife and landscape artist Benson Bond Moore. Over a long period, the two young ladies collected several works by Moore and simply stored them safely away – never having them framed or allowing them exposure to sunlight. This is one of the watercolors, and it is as nice as the day Moore sat by the frozen Potomac river and created it. One of the young women became an artist in her own right. Her name was Elizabeth Muhlhofer, also of DC. She specialized in florals and miniature paintings, and she is listed most everywhere. Benson Moore, of course, is deeply listed and actively sought. His works are in the permanent collections of many, many museums. The work is 11 ½” by 8 5/8” not counting the matting he put it in himself. It is signed, lower right: “Benson B. Moore.” You may be asking yourself how I know the two sisters developed a friendship with Moore. Well, I have several of his works from Elizabeth Muhlhofer’s estate, and a few of them have personal greetings from Moore, written in pencil and mentioning his friends, “the Misses Muhlhofer.” Here at 341, I have two "Prime Directives:" First: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and everything starts at $9, sometimes even less. And, I never end auctions early or use BIN. Second: I don't clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to note any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it. So rest easy and have some fun. Why not place a little tiny bid right now so's you don't forget about it later. Moore’s biography reflects the life of a man dedicated to art. He studied at the Linthicum Institute and at the Corcoran School of Art with Edmund Messer, Richard Brooke and Max Weyl. He earned a reputation for landscapes, at first emulating the Barbizon School, but later becoming one of the finest watercolor landscape impressionists. One other fascinating thing about the man was something that happened in 1902. He took a job drawing sketches for Alexander Graham Bell, assisting him with the development of hearing aids. This painting is likely from the period during which Benson, along with Charles Seaton, Winfield Clime and Edwin Cassedy formed a group of artists who traveled the area surrounding Washington, DC – painting and critiquing one another’s work. They called themselves “The Ramblers Sketch Club.” So well respected were Moore’s works, the “Ramblers” eventually became the highly respected Washington Landscape Club. This piece, along with a few others I’ll be listing, is most certainly of museum / investment quality – especially with the provenance provided. NO DISAPPOINTMENTS. GOOD LUCK Buyer pays $8.50 for professional packing and insured shipping. (That is for U.S. Lower 48 only. Elsewhere in the known Universe - request quote.)
