In the lower right section of the painting you can see an overturned stool and a shoe, where the young lady must have fallen and twisted her ankle. The local country doctor has come to bind it, while the husband looks on. This dark room has a warm glow, provided by a bright kerosene lamp on a table to the left of the painting. It is very difficult to see, but the artist signature is in the lower left hand corner. I can make out the initial F. but thats it. There are two old owner's labels on the back, but the information was scratched of many years ago. Because of the quality Im sure this painting is by a noted artist. These have been on a living room wall for decades. I purchased them from an estate this past weekend, and I was told that they were from the 1940s as was most of the other items in the house. After researching a bit, it appears that this is the typical style of Weigel's work from the 40s and early 50s, and the frames are dated to that time, so most likely 1940s original frames as well. If you have concerns about the dating of these paintings, please research before bidding, as they are being sold as vintage paintings, but I am not an expert and cannot guarantee the dates. However, I do guarantee they are authentic Weigel. These have paper labels on the back that are mostly still intact, which is amazing for their age. These are the harder to come by small paintings. I will not break up this set of 8, thanks for not asking. These are in wonderful vintage condition and in my opinion, ready to hang. They could use a light cleaning, but do display nicely as is. Truly a skilled professional artist whose wholesome, down-to-earth approach to art makes her artwork accessible to the viewer, and make her successful as an artist as well. She passed away in the mid 80's, and we were fortunate enough to acquire her entire estate of paintings.
