EDGAR LONGSTAFFE (1849-1912) LOVELY British LISTED OIL "NATURES GLORY" - OUTSTANDING REALIST PAINTING - LARGE  Edgar Longstaffe ( 1849 - 1912 ) "Nature's Glory" An exceptional work by Longstaffe - large and impressive with a beautiful light. A similar one to this sold for $5,200 in 2003 (see artprice.com). This beautiful view shows the influence of Benjamin Williams Leader, a contemporary and fellow Royal Academy exhibitor - this is as good if not better than any of Leaders oils. Title: "Nature's Glory" Provenance: Private collection Medium: Oil on canvas Signature: Signed lower right & dated 1886 Size: This piece measures 20 x 30 inches unframed / 25 x 35 framed Condition: Very good condition - relined around 30 years ago ABOUT THE ARTIST: He was born near Derby. The son of a doctor , he married and moved to Essex. During the 1880’s he exhibited five times at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Hibernian Academy and at Birmingham. A prolific painter , many of his pictures, signed E.L. Edgar Longstaffe was for some years on the staff of Messrs Raphael Tuck & Sons being sent by them to all the principal beauty spots of the British Isles to obtain sketches for reproduction work in the earlier days of the art picture postcard. He was especially fond of portraying Highland scenery with cattle and he excelled in the painting of water . Later in life he moved to Laindon Essex.
