Antique 19C. Miniature Folk Art WC Portrait Painting #1 If you have been watching my site then you know I have recently acquired a fine collection of miniature folk art portraits and silhouettes from one Western Connecticut estate. Listed here is one of a pair of antique watercolor portraits of two brothers, the other is also listed this evening on my page and a photo at the bottom of the auction shows you both...you are bidding on the one highlighted in the auction ad. Description: This is a super antique folk art miniature portrait of a dapper gentleman dating to the first half of the 19th C. The portrait listed here looks American to me, the artist is unknown as they are not signed. The watercolor is housed in a ebonized wood frame with brass bezel with convex glass. The gentleman with whispy hair and curly side taps wearing a starched white shirt with blue collar and black overcoat. Perfectly painted and a great presence. The frame is embellished with an acorn loop hanger and the back was backed with paper to protect the hand made wall paper in the estate...I did not venture to take apart and it appears the portraits are painted on a card stock. If you look closely at the close up photos you will notice the mans coat is highlighted in a ghost like black color and there is the most minor amount of flaking to the back side of his coat only seen under high magnification, can't be seen with the naked eye and is far from detracting Size: The watercolor portrait measures about 3 1/8" x 2 5/8" site size and overall is 5 3/4" x 4 7/8". Condition: Beautiful condition, as stated some light flaking to the highlighted back of overcoat which it totally unnoticable with the naked eye, this is a stunning portrait in fine condition. Please check out my other auctions if you want to own both.... Offered at .99 with NO RESERVE!
