1940 California Hills w/Oaks, Poppies & Lupine, Listed Picture(s) and Description:

Beautiful ca. 1935-45 original oil on masonite plein air landscape with oak trees, poppies, and Lupine, signed lr. Griffith. The work is clearly that of a professional artist, however I don't know which "Griffith" this was done by. There are over a dozen Griffith's that painted in California during the correct time frame, but none with photos of their signatures for me to compare to. Nevertheless, the work is lovely, ready to hang, and measures an approx. overall 17 x 15. The artwork is in very good condition with no apparent problems, losses, or repairs (see photos). Might perhaps brighten with a surface cleaning but it is absolutely not necessary (see photos). I rather prefer the natural patina it has acquired with age. The frame is a heavy solid wood plein air style and is also in very good condition with no apprent problems whatsoever (see photos). I purchased this piece several years ago from a San Francisco auction house that was deaccessioning several pieces from an early California art collection.
